Ghattamaneni Krishna (full name Ghattamaneni Sivaramakrishnamurthy) is a Telugu film actor, director and producer. Krishna became popular as a Telugu film hero in the 1970s and 80s and became a superstar.
Krishna, who played minor roles in several films before 1964, played the hero in 1964-65. He then starred in over 340 films in a career spanning over four decades. He started a production company in 1970 and made several successful films through Padmalaya. He set up his own studio Padmalaya Studio in Hyderabad in 1983 with the help of the government. He also made 16 films as a director.
Many films starring Krishna have introduced new technologies and genres in Telugu. Krishna's films include the first James Bond movie in Telugu (spy 116), the first cowboy movie (cheater for cheaters), the first fullscope movie (Alluri Sitaramaraj), and the first 70mm movie (Throne). Along with these there are super hit movies like Pandit Kapuram, God Made Man, Padipantalu, Today, Volcano. Mainly between 1976-1985 Krishna's career reached its zenith. From 1964 to 1995, Krishna completed an average of 100 films per ten years, or 300 films at a rate of 10 films per year. For this, he completes movies in three shifts.
Krishna started his own production company, Padmalaya Pictures, in 1970, hoping to make films that would bring him stardom. Krishna's younger brothers Hanumantrao and Adisesha Girirao acted as producers and supervised the construction work. Padmalaya's first film was Agnipariksha. It was not a big success. However, the second film, Cheat, which was made in 1971, was a huge success and brought Krishna's name as an adventurer. The movie The Treacher Hunt has been translated into English and released in 123 countries, with great success. Krishna achieved star status for him as expected.
Many films like Katakatala Rudrayya (1978) and Khaidi (1983) had to be starred by Krishna but he gave up due to various reasons. In 1982, the Venkatram government gave 10 acres of land in Jubilee Hills to Padmalaya in Hyderabad to build a studio. Krishna became the owner of Padmalaya Studios on November 21, 1983 when Padmalaya Studios was started by Chief Minister NT Rama Rao.
When the Jayandhra movement took place in 1972, Krishna openly supported the movement. When NT Rama Rao entered politics and became the Chief Minister in the 1980s, Telugu Nata also had a direct connection to the glamor of the film industry and politics. Released on December 17, 1982 with Krishna as the protagonist, the political film "Eenadu" is in line with the Telugu Desam Party ideology and propaganda that had just made its debut. The film, which was released three weeks before the elections, played a minor role in Telugudesam Prabhanjan. NT Rama Rao became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 1983 when the Telugu Desam Party government took over. When Nadella Bhaskara Rao overthrew the NTR government in 1984 and became the Chief Minister, a full page statement was released saying that Krishna was congratulating Bhaskara Rao. The incident gave a political dimension to the differences between Krishna and Rama Rao. These differences erupted when NT Rama Rao became the Chief Minister again. When Indira Gandhi was assassinated in October 1984, Krishna went to Delhi for her funeral. At the same time Rajiv Gandhi, who took over as Prime Minister and Congress party president, met Krishna. The Congress leaders felt that Rama Rao was gaining mass appeal to the Telugu Desam Party and that Krishna would help the Congress party with such popularity. Krishna joined the Congress party in 1984. Krishna then made films satirically criticizing the government's actions.

కృష్ణ నటించిన పలు సినిమాలు తెలుగులో కొత్త సాంకేతికతలు, జాన్రాలు పరిచయం చేశాయి. తెలుగులో తొలి జేమ్స్‌బాండ్ సినిమా (గూఢచారి 116), తొలి కౌబాయ్ సినిమా (మోసగాళ్ళకు మోసగాడు), తొలి ఫుల్‌స్కోప్ సినిమా (అల్లూరి సీతారామరాజు), తొలి 70 ఎంఎం సినిమా (సింహాసనం) వంటివి కృష్ణ నటించిన సినిమాలే. వీటితో పాటుగా పండంటి కాపురం, దేవుడు చేసిన మనుషులు, పాడిపంటలు, ఈనాడు, అగ్నిపర్వతం వంటి సూపర్ హిట్ సినిమాలు ఉన్నాయి. ప్రధానంగా 1976-1985 మధ్యకాలంలో కృష్ణ కెరీర్ అత్యున్నత దశకు అందుకుంది. 1964 నుంచి 1995 వరకు కృష్ణ సగటున పదేళ్ళకు వంద సినిమాలు, అంటే ఏడాదికి 10 సినిమాల చొప్పున 300 సినిమాలు పూర్తిచేశాడు. ఇందుకోసం మూడు షిఫ్టులు చొప్పున వేగంగా సినిమాలు పూర్తిచేసేవాడు.
కృష్ణ తనకు స్టార్‌డం తెచ్చిపెట్టే సినిమాలు తీయాలని ఆశించి 1970లో తన స్వంత నిర్మాణ సంస్థ పద్మాలయా పిక్చర్స్ ప్రారంభించాడు. కృష్ణ తమ్ముళ్ళు హనుమంతరావు, ఆదిశేషగిరిరావులు నిర్మాతలుగా వ్యవహరిస్తూ నిర్మాణ వ్యవహారాలు పర్యవేక్షించేవారు. పద్మాలయా వారి మొదటి సినిమాగా అగ్నిపరీక్ష సినిమా నిర్మితమైంది. ఇది పెద్ద విజయం సాధించలేదు. అయితే రెండవ సినిమాగా 1971లో తీసిన మోసగాళ్ళకు మోసగాడు మాత్రం భారీ విజయాన్ని, సాహసిగా కృష్ణకు పేరును తెచ్చిపెట్టింది. మోసగాళ్ళకు మోసగాడు సినమా ఆంగ్లంలోకి ట్రెజర్ హంట్ పేరిట అనువాదమై 123 దేశాల్లో విడుదలైంది, మంచి విజయాన్ని సాధించింది. కృష్ణ ఆశించిన విధంగా అతనికి స్టార్ హోదా సాధించిపెట్టింది.
కటకటాల రుద్రయ్య (1978), ఖైదీ (1983) వంటి పలు సినిమాలు అసలు కృష్ణ నటించాల్సి వచ్చినా వివిధ కారణాల వల్ల వదులుకున్నాడు.కృష్ణంరాజు కెరీర్‌ను కటకటాల రుద్రయ్య, చిరంజీవి కెరీర్‌ను ఖైదీ మలుపుతిప్పే స్థాయి విజయాలు అయ్యాయి. 1982లో భవనం వెంకట్రామ్ ప్రభుత్వం హైదరాబాద్లో పద్మాలయా సంస్థకు స్టూడియో నిర్మించుకోవడానికి జూబ్లీహిల్స్‌లో 10 ఎకరాల స్థలాన్ని ఇచ్చింది. 1983 నవంబరు 21న ముఖ్యమంత్రి ఎన్.టి.రామారావు చేతుల మీదుగా పద్మాలయా స్టూడియోస్ ప్రారంభం కావడంతో కృష్ణ స్టూడియో యజమాని అయ్యాడు.
1972లో జైఆంధ్ర ఉద్యమం జరిగినప్పుడు కృష్ణ ఆ ఉద్యమానికి బహిరంగంగా మద్దతునిచ్చాడు. 1980ల్లో ఎన్.టి.రామారావు రాజకీయ రంగ ప్రవేశం చేసి ముఖ్యమంత్రి కావడంతో తెలుగు నాట కూడా సినిమా రంగంలోని గ్లామర్‌కు రాజకీయాలకు మధ్య ప్రత్యక్ష సంబంధం ఏర్పడింది. 1982 డిసెంబరు 17న కృష్ణ కథానాయకుడిగా విడుదలైన రాజకీయ చిత్రం "ఈనాడు" సినిమా అప్పుడే రంగప్రవేశం చేసిన తెలుగుదేశం పార్టీ సిద్ధాంతాలకు, ప్రచారానికి అనుకూలంగా ఉంది. ఎన్నికలు మూడువారాల్లో ఉన్న స్థితిలో విడుదలైన ఈ సినిమా తెలుగుదేశం ప్రభంజనంలో తనవంతు చిన్న పాత్ర పోషించింది. 1983లో తెలుగుదేశం పార్టీ ప్రభుత్వం చేపట్టి ఎన్.టి.రామారావు ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ ముఖ్యమంత్రి అయ్యాడు. 1984లో ఎన్టీఆర్ ప్రభుత్వాన్ని నాదెళ్ళ భాస్కరరావు కూలదోసి ముఖ్యమంత్రి అయినప్పుడు భాస్కరరావును కృష్ణ అభినందిస్తున్నట్టు ఫుల్‌పేజీ ప్రకటన విడుదల అయింది. ఈ సంఘటన కృష్ణకి, రామారావుకి మధ్య విభేదాలకు రాజకీయ కోణాన్ని ఇచ్చింది. ఎన్.టి.రామారావు తిరిగి ముఖ్యమంత్రి అయ్యాకా ఈ విభేదాలు రాజుకున్నాయి. 1984 అక్టోబరులో ఇందిరా గాంధీ దారుణహత్యకు గురైనప్పుడు కృష్ణ ఆమె అంత్యక్రియలకు ఢిల్లీ వెళ్ళాడు. అదే సమయంలో ప్రధాన మంత్రిగా, కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ అధ్యక్షుడిగా బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరించిన రాజీవ్ గాంధీ, కృష్ణ కలిశారు. తెలుగుదేశం పార్టీకి రామారావు మాస్ అప్పీల్ లాభిస్తోందని, అలాంటి ప్రజాకర్షణ ఉన్న కృష్ణ కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీకి ఉపకరిస్తాడని కాంగ్రెస్ నాయకులు భావించారు. 1984లో కృష్ణ కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీలో చేరాడు. ఆ తర్వాత కృష్ణ ప్రభుత్వ చర్యలను వ్యంగ్యంగా విమర్శిస్తూ సినిమాలు చేశాడు.
